# THE BANALITY OF PONTIUS PILATE The responsibility of the state and Pontius Pilate I believe begs its own essay: it’s likely that we don’t hold Pilate with the same cultural vilification as Judas due to antisemitism, which opens up a very interesting discussion on his literal handwashing and the connection to the banality of evil (specifically in its original context of the trial of SS Officer Adolf Eichmann).
